See Jane Run requesting sneakers and socks for refugee donation

Posted on

In partnership with the Captains Table on Lesvos Island in Molyvos and Help for Refugees in Molyvos, shoes will go directly to those in need.

SAN FRANCISCO, September 07, 2015 — See Jane Run is in the unique position to help the Syrian refugees in Greece, and we are going to do our little bit to help. We are asking all of our customers to donate athletic shoes and socks for the Syrian refugees who are streaming into Greece. In a partnership with a local organization on Lesvos Island, we will be sending the shoes and socks directly to those in need. We would like shoes for men, women and children with a matching pair of socks for each donation. Athletic shoes only (running shoes, athletic sandals like Keens, etc) that are CLEAN and in great shape as well as lightweight (preferably new) socks. Please no beat up old shoes.

“What is needed is mainly men’s shoes in sizes 41-45 (8-12 US) and children’s. We are not in need of women’s 36-41 (6-11 US) as much”, says Melinda McRostie, Owner the Captain’s Table. The Captain’s Table in Molyvos is the collection point for donations which are going to the organization, Help For Refugees in Molyvos. You can find them on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/HelpForRefugeesInMolyvos and twitter, https://twitter.com/helpforrefugees. There is also a fundraising page where you can send money directly to help buy needed supplies locally. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/help-for-refugees-on-lesvos-greece#/story

See Jane Run will be collecting shoes and socks from September 9th-30th, 2015. We are asking that you bring only athletic shoes and socks. The organization does not want dress shoes, flip flops, shoes in bad shape or boots and will refuse these donations. Refugees who will be receiving these shoes will need them to be comfortable and useful for long hours of walking. Shoes that don’t fit this criteria will not be accepted. To ensure we do not only get women’s shoes, we will accept one pair of women’s shoes for every two of men’s and children’s, so if you want to bring in your women’s shoes, please bring at least two pair of kids or men’s to balance out the need.

See Jane Run is also asking for donations to help cover the shipping costs to Greece as well as for boxes and bags we will buy to send them. You can donate money on our gofundme page. http://www.gofundme.com/pp3nk78w. Any money collected over and above our shipping costs will be sent to the fundraising page setup for the organization. If you also want to help See Jane Run organize and box up the shoes, you can email them with dates and times you can help to volunteer@seejanerun.com.

Donations can be dropped at See Jane Run in Oakland, 5817 College Avenue Oakland CA 94015 and See Jane Run San Francisco, 3910 24th Street San Francisco CA 94015 during normal business hours. You can find more information on the stores at www.seejanerun.com/stores. See Jane Run will stop taking donations after September 16th unless we determine at that time to extend the program.
