This race takes place at the beautiful Shadow Cliffs Regional Park in Pleasanton, CA
The triathlon begins on the sandy shores of the Shadow Cliffs swimming beach. You’ll enter the water in waves of 100-150 women, every five minutes. Swim out into relatively calm, open water. Buoys mark the route. 18 lifeguards and 3 water buddies are on the lookout throughout. Touching a lifeguard during competition will disqualify your swim and you will be removed from the water, touching a water buddy will not. Water buddies will be clearly identified and are there to help less strong swimmers gain confidence to continue, if needed.
The water is relatively warm this time of year. Expect temperatures between 65-75 degrees. Wetsuits are optional. About 1/2 of the people there will be using wetsuits.
Ride a well-marked, paved course by a rough rock quarry and along rolling hills dotted with vineyards. You’ll encounter one hill around mile 6. Otherwise it’s a nice, flat course. The roads will not be closed to cars, but the route will be well staffed with CHP officers and SJR Triathlon volunteers.
Most of your route will be on packed dirt with some pavement. Considered the prettiest part of the race, you’ll run alongside the lake, down by a shady brook and around marshes and fields on a relatively flat course with three short, steep hills (30 –40 ft. elev. Gain) and one minor rise.
Run – You pass the 4 water stations on the run course twice--at 1/4 mile, 1 mile, 1.5 miles and 2.25 miles. There are NO water stops on the bike course.
The Finish Line and transition area are located near the North Beach (1) and the Entry Kiosk. The race start is on the beach noted by the swimmer icon. Racers can walk from the transition area to the start in a minute or two.

There is hiking, swimming, boating, fishing and a BMX riding park, plus the water slides, which are just across the parking lot from the transition area.
