No one ever said being green was easy. You gotta think and question and challenge the status quo as if the Earth depended on it. Because duh, it does. We challenge ourselves and you to ponder how our everyday lives impact the planet and what we can do differently to lessen that impact.
Take those energy efficient light bulbs. Yeah, they take an extra second to brighten up, but they give you a warm feeling because at least you’re doing something!
Truth be told, it’s the small stuff that adds up to big change. So, here are a few things you can do. We don’t expect you to go out and buy a hybrid car, but we’d be happy to help you recycle your running shoes. Here’s to the Jane in all of us.
Jane's Green List
If there's one thing we love at See Jane Run, it's the planet, which is why we're in training to be more green.
After all, if you can run a mile, you can make a difference.
In the past six months, many of our vendors have launched their own green initiatives. It is inspiring to see an industry band together to make eco-friendly choices. Many of the lines we carry offer organic cotton, wool or other earth-friendly fibers like corn and soy, or they are conscientious about their production processes, recycling and supporting other eco-friendly causes. Horny Toad, Patagonia, Prana, Smartwool, Timbuk2, Keen and Overland are just a few of the brands we carry that are making efforts to lessen their impact through the products they sell and the way they run their businesses.
In 2006, Prana, our premier yoga and lifestyle line, launched the Natural Power Initiative. Prana has donated money to wind farms to offset the amount of energy their retailers use to run their stores. See Jane Run is pleased to have been a part of this plan from the beginning. Prana calculated our locations’ kilowatt/per hour usage based on square footage and offset our estimated 2007 electric consumption with Green-E certified Renewable Energy Certificates. Prana is expecting to prevent 22,112 metric tons of greenhouse gases through the support of wind farms” in 2007. We are pleased to be a part of this program with them.
See Jane Run is going green too. From light bulbs to cleaning supplies, we’re reducing our impact on the planet. Next time you are in the store, look for tags highlighting our eco friendly items. Working together, we can all live healthy, sustainable, energetic lives!
